I honestly would argue the point considering Ice age brought us the pain lands, baton of morale (after the inception of the stack, banding was removed for being WAY too powerful), and blinking spirit (the unkillable card). Mirage gave us afterlife, cadaverous bloom, and Final Fortune(the best card to combo with Platinum Angel and Isochron Scepter). Alliances gave us Exile, Kjeldoran outpost, and Balduvian Horde.
Even though the present block has tons of artifacts that seem over-powered, you have to remember that WotC gave us tons of artifact removal to keep it all balanced.

Shit, I just realized I didn't link any of the cards I mentioned. Sorry about that, I'll remember next time.

The pain lands were still weaker than existing dual lands. I would argue that the nastiness of the combo you mentioned with Final Fortune is due more to the power of Isochron Scepter and Platinum Angel than from the Final Fortune.

I fall on both sides of the wall here (Is that even a saying?): Yes, Magic is indubitably getting more powerful, but there's nothing we can do about it, and, it's better that way! The only thing I don't like is how there are cards that everyone has to have to be competitive. It's like Yu-Gi-Oh! or something. Ice Age Brokeness: (I can't believe you didn't mention this) Necro (I don't think I need to link that, but hey: Necropotence

Yeah, d**n that Skull. The way I generally look at it is that the average power level of sets has been constantly climbing since Masques (where they dropped it down after all the brokenness of Urza's block), but the individual broken cards are, for the most part, coming down. A bit.

I think it's really weird that a card that had to be banned from Type 2 doesn't even really get that much play in Type 1. Ravager-affinity probably uses it there, but it isn't as much of a danger in a format filled with Power 9 and decks that win at the same speed as Affinity does (or faster).

It gets REALLY irritating in T1.5 and Casual...

Tournament decks shouldn't be used in casual play, in my opinion. But yeah, Clamp still frustrates in casual. I have a myr deck that makes pretty good use of it, and I have been informed that my turns take too long (but that's what happens when you keep drawing cards in a deck full of low-cost spells).

So in other words, he doesn't really use it the way it's meant to be used?
