That particular comment was said half in jest (although I DO think "Moxen" is silly and prefer "Moxes"). Maybe I should have used a different smiley.
But in general, my life could be going better, and I suppose I am a little unhappy in general. I'm not about to list out all the various things that might be contributing to it, but I will say that Magic in general is only a very small part of it.
I suppose you're right to call me out on being pretty negative on the boards lately, but overall it's not as bad as it probably looks. A little unhappy lately? Sure. Miserable? That's overstating it.

On a lighter note I'm having trouble figuring out what to take out of the deck to fit in the Mystical Tutor; it makes the deck 61 cards. I'm also wondering if putting the Lotus Petal in is worth it, and if so I would need to take another card out and I'm not sure what yet. I only have 18 lands in so I'm not sure if I can afford to take land out, but I haven't tested the deck yet, so its hard for me to say.

Well after analyzing other Vintage decks I noticed one thing. My deck is set to defend me against the other decks "unfair plays" that vintage is known for, but I don't really have any offensive plays of my own. So I think I'm going to throw in a Tinker and a Blightsteel Colossus. Now don't worry because I don't plan on playing the deck casually and if I do I'll tell everyone up front that I am and fully expect to have everyone gun for me from the start. This one will be meant for Pastimes when they start up their Vintage tourney. I'm just trying to figure out what to take out. I'm thinking of taking out the 2 Echoing Truths for the Tinker and Blightsteel, but that still leaves another card to replace the Mystical Tutor with, and another if I decide to put in the Lotus Petal.

At that point, why even bother with all the Merfolk?

At that point, why even bother with all the Merfolk? Yes that's the conundrum. If I take out the Merfolk I need to add in things like Time Vault and Voltaic key and that just means more money so meh...

Meh I'll just stick with what I have posted and see how it plays out. I have enough control that I think I would do halfway decent anyway.

I tested the deck in Cockatrice and it beat out my Angel deck 2-1 games and I made another Black vintage deck and it beat that deck in the one game I played against it, so I'm pretty satisfied. The only change I may make is to up the deck to 3 standstills and get rid of one or two Null Rods as I think 4 is a bit excessive.

Against the right deck, Null Rod can completely ruin someone's day. In that case, having four in the deck is something you want. I'd say if you're making it a tournament deck, move a couple of them to the sideboard and leave it at that.

Ok so I finally got to play my legacy merfolk yesterday at Pastimes; lost all three matches. First match was against UW Landstill with Wrath, Disk, Duals and even a flood added in. I won the first game, but that was only because he drew horribly. Second match was against Dredge and one game I got horrible draws and the other I just couldn't stop or slow him down. Third match was an elf deck that pulled Emrakul out. I won one game, couldn't draw land the other, and the third I just couldn't slow him down enough to do his combo to get Emrakul out.
Now I admit that part of me losing is that I'm new to competitive legacy play and surely misplayed, but basically the whole night I just felt like my opponents decks were just better in every way than mine and were able to control everything I did more than I could control them. It was fun, but definitely far as you can be from casual.

Glad to hear you had fun, even if you got slaughtered. Competitive tournaments aren't my thing (closest I would come was the occasional Friday night draft at Astro City), but if you decide to do it again, and you ever want to borrow any of my cards for another tournament appearance, I'll totally lend them to you as long as you're careful with them (which I know you would be). Like if you needed more Standstills and didn't want to buy them, or wanted to try them before you buy or something.

Oh thanks. Yeah if the time comes I'll definitely let you know. I actually side boarded in a couple Standstills and it worked pretty well. It actually delayed the 15/15 monstrosity for a turn or two. Sadly I couldn't capitalize on it though.

Competitive tournaments aren't my thing (closest I would come was the occasional Friday night draft at Astro City) Oh for what its worth they also do a draft Thursdays along side the Legacy tournament. The draft had a ton of people and Legacy only had 4, so if your ever up for drafting I'll at least be in the store with you, but I just don't care much for draft.

Well, I kinda suck at drafting, at least against people who do it regularly. I did come out pretty well the time we drafted a box of Odyssey for my birthday, as I recall.
But there's two things I really like about drafting. First, everyone is on more or less equal footing, because it's not about who bought the best deck or whatever. Everybody is pulling from packs right then and there, so it's down to the luck of the draw and making smart picks from the packs. Second, since you can keep the cards you draft, I sometimes get to pull stuff that would be useful to one of my actual decks, and I used to get a disproportionate amount of rares because people would sometimes pass over them for something more useful in the draft.
Anyway, I don't have spare cash for that kind of discretionary spending right now, so it's not gonna be happening anytime soon. Also, did you say there were only four people doing the Legacy tournament?

There is anywhere from 4 to 10. Its less now because everyone is drafting Innistrad still
