Uhh... Welcome.
What you've just raised goes somewhat beyond a tall order, into the section of a gigantic order. The Magic storylines are more complex then those of any other game, indeed, then those of most movies. For example, the Brother's War series extended from near the first sets to Invasion or so. This was about ten sets, years in the making, and only concluded very recently. Briefly, the Magic worlds are these: Dominaria-The main world, the scene of most of the Brother's War and the home of Magic's biggest bigwigs. Mirrodin-A metalic plane created by Karn, Silver Golem, the creation of Urza, Planeswalker, one of two major players in the Brother's War. The subject of Mirrodin block. Phyrexia-Oh, forget it, someone who knows more about this can fill you in.

i don't think i even want to try and answer this. There is so much detail that can be gotten into. i suggets just going here and clicking on Urza or Yawgmoth. That will answer a bunch of question about the main story of magic until now. Some of the others are good reads too. I would suggest reading Volrath, Chainer, Teferi, and Taysir too. If you are interested in the Mirrodin story, go ahead and read Glissa too.

Does anyone know what the name of the Kamigawa world is? Is it Kamigawa, or is that the name of another Planeswalker? I know the set is Japanese based but...

Its Kamigawa. 100%. all the proof you need is in the names of the sets. Champions of Kamigawa, something of Kamigawa, Saviors of Kamigawa. The plane is Kamigawa, they stopped the whole supercontinent things with Dominaria.

Betrayers of Kamigawa is the second set.
Here's a thought: If they are abbreviating Champions of Kamigawa as ChK instead of CoK, does that mean the next two sets are BeK and SaK?

... Does it really matter what their abbreviations are?

No, which is why I think it's silly that Wizards worried enough about it that they had to change it from what everybody expected.
