The sellers may be just desperate (or ingenious) scam artists rather than idiots. Or... they could just be idiots.

Oh, yah, the Grilled Cheese: The buyer bought it as a tourist attraction (I believe it's some sort of casino).
So, not really idiocy.
It is, I gather, a famous sort of sandwich.
