Well, it was announced today, and will be effective starting June 20th, skullclamp is banned in both Standard (type 2) and Mirrodin block.

Probably has something to do with the fact that it makes pretty much any deck super super fast, and every single tournament-competitive deck in Block and Type 2 has to run it. Wouldn't be surprised if it's popular in Extended too. Were there any other bannings? I was keeping my fingers crossed to see Disciple of the Vault get the axe...

Nope, only clamp was removed. It's the first standard banning since memory Jar, and the first block banning since Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero and Rishadan Port. The only reason they ban cards is if EVERY deck runs it and/or is a "Play this or lose" type of card. Disciple doesn't realy fit either one of those categories, so get used to seeing it.

Oh well.
So, is Skullclamp still fair game in Type 1 and Extended?

Ok, I'm not seeing what's so great about Rishadan Port. It taps one land. Sure, you can slow down your opponent with that, but you're slowing yourself too, because you could've used that land-drop for something else. What am I missing?

In that case, wouldn't you want people running more Ports, to help stop the most broken deck to ever make it into tournament play?
