last night, my room-mate and i were playing and he attacked me, i declared blockers. he then, as a fast effect, tapped the creature i blocked with. can i reassign the blocker, or does the damage just go through?

It works the same as untapping an attacking creature after it was declared as attacking (unless you are using cards like Maze of Ith or Maze of Shadows). The creature still blocks the creatue it was assigned to. If he had tapped your creature before you declared blockers, it would be a different story.

Once you've declared the creature as a blocker, tapping him doesn't do anything. If your opponent wanted to stop you from blocking, then he would have had to tap the creature before you declared it as a blocker. Likewise, untapping an attacking creature, such as with a Seeker of Skybreak doesn't accomplish anything. Only cards such as Maze of Ith, which specifically states that you treat that creature as if it did not attack, will remove a creature from combat once it has been declared.

what he means is that when he attacked and the attacked should have said "Damage On" the he Taps it to produce its effect. Same thing with the blocker once he blocks he says "Damage on" then he Taps it. And once Blockers were assigned u cannot change ur mind but if u Battleing wit friends u can simply take it back

Oh my god. Wow is this thread random. Okay, first off "The Legend" has it right. One aspect of "fast effects" you may be overlooking is the fact that your opponent can't add anything to the stack until you relinquish priority. So here's how your blocking situation played out:
He declares attackers, once he is complete doing that he passes priority to you to use "fast effects", you pass, then priority goes to him for "fast effects" he passes and Declaration of attackers resolves. Now we go to Declaration of blockers, you declare any and all blocks you will do, then when you're done, you give him the option to play "fast effects" he is only able to tap one of your creatures after it's already declared a blocker, the legality of a blocker is checked upon delcaration of said block, after that it's eligability as a blocker is inconsequential. Once it blocks a creature that creature is blocked for the duration of combat reguardless if the blocker is tapped, destroyed or even removed from the game. Your opponent/roomate was wrong. The rules of Magic never allow you to go "back in time" as it were.

hey arcaddes? how the hell did u become a legend here? yous a scrippa Refer to the rules about speaking English on these boards. English does not include ridiculous forms of slang such as "scrippa". This thread has become overly spammed. Please create your own thread for questions, and do not post in someone elses question. Is that really so hard to do people? *click*
