Since Darksteel has been out for a while now, I thought I'd put up a list of what I feel are the ten best cards in the set. Please keep in mind that this list is made with the long run in mind. Therefore, the way a card interacts with older cards, and how useful it is likely to remain in the future, are taken into greater account than how dominant the card is in the current tournament atmosphere. This is why Arcbound Ravager is not at the top of the list, as I feel that the card will become less useful and less popular with the release of Fifth Dawn, and will continue do depreciate in usefulness and value after that.
1. Skullclamp - Quick, colorless card advantage. What else can I say?
2. Panoptic Mirror - There are so many ways to abuse this, it's not even funny.
3. Well of Lost Dreams - Mucho card drawing if done right.
4. Whispersilk Cloak - Equipped creature gains "Nyah nyah, you can't get me!"
5. Death Cloud - Mass destruction is always a good thing in Magic.
6. Last Word - A counterspell that can't itself be countered. Great way to stick it to another blue deck.
7. Genesis Chamber - Quick token production, perfect clamp fodder.
8. Trinisphere - Great way to slow speed-oriented decks.
9. Hallow - Can be a lifesaver when you need it.
10. Mycosynth Lattice - This card is amazingly useful, and only its casting cost keeps it from being more popular, in my opinion.
Cards that didn't quite make the list:
Memnarch
Greater Harvester
Ageless Entity
Mirrodin's Core
Pristine Angel
Feel free to agree/disagree and post your own top 10 Darksteel cards.
