Dark ConfidantThis card has become ridiculously popular in any format its playable in especially Legacy, but even some Vintage decks run this guy. Its pretty understandable why the card is so popular; every turn you get an extra draw basically. If you craft your deck around using him then the life loss will be minimum. I've seen a lot of red/black burn decks use this guy and let me tell you it makes a burn deck even more scary. I guess that's why he is going for $30 to $50.

I could have sworn I seen another card that does that. But yeah that is a pretty sick ability in the right deck.

It's similar in a way to Phyrexian Arena, which itself I believe was designed as a much weaker cousin of Necropotence. Phyrexian Arena was still in the core sets last time I checked. This guy has the advantage of being a little bit cheaper, but the life cost is steeper and he is easily killed to make up for it. Still, one mana can make all the difference in fast formats like competitive play, so I'm not that surprised he's so popular.

Yeah in a casual game he probably would end up killing you, but in a competitive tournament it works nicely; for the most part anyway.
