as i was recently checking the Maddox site, i found this somewhat dated article stating that people are trying to get him off the net. please read the article at this link, and any others you might find amusing. maddox.xmission.com/c.cgi?u=websense

um... yeah... the internet shouldnt be about freedom of expression, it should be either educational or have a specific purpose. granted i dont go to this perticular site, but still. you have my full support. i fail to see how a petition can stop a website from being online. no one can actually make the person who holds the server to that site delete it. especially if hes making money. who knows, this money could be the only way hes supporting his sixty-some odd children.
my advice is this: if you want revenge, do the exact same thing back. have someone start a website that features people against the mothers against maddox. that ought to show them.

Censorship is a tricky thing. The reap orblem is censorship is very situational. Then there is the issue of others trying to tell us is ok and whats not.

um... yeah... the internet shouldnt be about freedom of expression, it should be either educational or have a specific purpose. This particular sentence doesn't fit with the rest of what you said, so I'm not sure if it's quoted from somewhere, or sarcasm, or what. If, however, you meant it (which I can't imagine considering that a) it's the exact opposite of what you say in the rest of your post, and b) I know you well enough to think you wouldn't mean something like this, then I must disagree. After all, if the internet were restricted to educational and relevant material, it would be about 1% of its current size and nobody at all would use it.

When it's something illegal like that, of course it needs to be shut down. Censorship of opinions, however, should never happen. But you have to be careful with opinion statements. You can still be successfully sued for libel if you say the wrong things. If you say something that is an assertion of fact in context of your opinion statement (i.e. "He is a liar," "he is corrupt," etc.) then you can still be sued for that. But as far as censoring things entirely, no, it shouldn't be allowed.
