I have it but haven't gotten to reading it yet. Still working on something else first, then I'll get to it.

I read it, but it's far too convoluted to summarize. However, I would like to say that it is, amazingly, a GOOD BOOK!

I started it the other day, and I was reading it during class yesterday (hey, it's better than sleeping in class!). The main character so far is pretty cool. The overall writing style doesn't impress me too much though. The book seems to suffer from what I think of as "R.A. Salvatore syndrome," meaning that it has very cool characters, but the author's storytelling skill leaves something to be desired.

Yah that was my impression too. He doesn't actually have a writing style, really. It's just... A moving story, without anything distinct in the wording. Still, the black rogue guy (I already forgot his name) is cool.

the thing i love about "R.A. Salvatore syndrome" is the fantastic descriptions of battles.

Battles? There were battles in this book? Where?

Not this book, he's referring to the Drizzt series of books by R.A. Salvatore. In which the battles are pretty decent. Although I've seen better.

My friend read those. I tried them, but they were sooooo dull.

Well I finished the book today. What I don't understand is this: none of the main characters are represented on cards yet.
***Possible Spoilers, highlight to read***
Toshi Umezawa doesn't have a card, neither does Princess Michiko or her friends Riko and Choryu (and I doubt there will be one for him in the later sets thanks to Toshi sending him to be tortured by Hidetsugu). There is no card for Lady Pearl-Ear or her brother Sharp-Ear (the coolest character in the book other than Toshi). There also isn't a card for Kobo the monk (who also isn't gonna get one now that he's dead), or for his master Hidetsugu.
There is a card for Konda, as well as Nagao, but neither is really a main character. It's true that three of the Myojins (Life's Web, Night's Reach, and Infinite Rage) appear, and the Myojin of Cleansing Fire is invoked, and the Brothers Yamazaki are in there, even though they aren't named. Godo is mentioned but not seen, and Marrow-Gnawer makes a brief appearance. However, none of the main characters are carded. And for that matter, they aren't even quoted in the flavor text of any cards that I've seen. Makes you wonder how closely the card designers worked with the author.

Yes, there are two possible solutions:
1) Noone talked to the author 2) They're saving the characters for a later set. After all, Mirrodin block didn't have Memnarch or Slobad 'til Darksteel.
I'm really hoping it's the second, because these characters are way too cool not to have a card--Well, Umezawa, Michiko, Pearl-Ear, and Sharp-Ear, anyways.

They'd be idiots to not make a Toshi Umezawa card. I just hope it's playable. It's possible they won't make a Michiko card. After all she doesn't really do a whole lot herself. Also hope for a Sharp-Ear card. If they don't make one by Saviors of Kamigawa, I'll probably do it myself.

I want a Michiko card, I think she's a pretty cool character. She could do something tribal for Samurai, possibly.
