I recently began playing one of my old Sega Genesis RPG games, Phantasy Star 4, and realized how awesome it was. Being able to fly around to other worlds and driving around in vehicles blowing up any monster that gets in my way . Such an awesome game. Do any of you have an RPG that you call your favorite?

Any list without Chrono Trigger in the top 3 at bare minimum is a list so deeply flawed as to be completely invalid.

Thats an awfuly extreme opinon. Chrono Trigger is good but tis not the greatest. Its on my top 10 but not top 5. Last I remember it actually came in 6th though.

Chrono Trigger isn't so hot. You want a real game go play final Fantasy 4. That is the true gem of the Super Nintendo era. Also if you can get your hands on it the Super Nintendo Ogre Batle its the best one of the series.

I tried FF4. It was so boring that I gave it back to the person from whom I borrowed it as soon as I could.
I don't disagree with Ogre Battle being great either, although I think the N64 one is just as good (albeit in slightly different ways).

hmmm... i agree with kefka on most of his, but some of them i haven't heard of, like Terranigma. I also agree with Maraxus, Chrono Trigger should be in the top three at least. uhhh... was FF4 the one with Cecil the Black Knight/ Captain of the Red Wings? Here's my list. 1.FF6 2.Phantasy Star 4 3.Chrono Trigger 4.FF7 5.Shadow Hearts 6.Castlevania: Symphony of the Night 7.Xenosaga 8.Grandia 9.Megaman Battle Network 2 10.Baulder's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn These are the best d**n games of all time. Period.

Think of it as Final Fantasy, but done entirely in real-time. none of that turn-based combat stuff. you level-up(like FF), you can equip a multitude of different weapons, armor, and accessories(like FF), and it has a good story to it(like some FF's).

... what system is it on anyway. and i can't see how people can call any Legend of Zelda game a real RPG. look at some of the REAL RPG's and compare them to any of th LoZ games. They have very little in common.

Terranigma would've been an SNES game, I believe.
Why wouldn't you call Zelda an RPG?
Is it because it lacks turn-based combat? I would point to Secret of Mana as proof that RPGs don't have to be turn-based combat.
Is it because there's only one character? That would disqualify Dragon Warrior from being an RPG also.

But, what is the one thing that all RPG's have in common? growth from the common battle. FF has it, Dragon Warrior has it, Secret of Mana has it, even Symphony of the Night has it. If you can find a true RPG without growth from the common fights, i will humbly concede and accept LoZ as an RPG.
