Ok, this is another ability that would probably work just in one set, but here goes:
Mitosis X (X would be the converted casting cost of the creature). Anyway, what this does is that if you pay the mitosis cost of the creature, sacrifice the creature. You may then put a number of creature tokens into play with the same color and creature type as the sacrificed creature so that the number of creature tokens you just played is not greater than the original creature's toughness. Then, you may divide up an amount of toughness among those tokens equal to the amount of toughness the original creature had. Do the same with the power.
That may be confusing, but here's an example.
Let's say we have a 4/6 red creature with a converted mana cost of 5 (the creature is a goblin). Therefore, it would have the ability "Mitosis 5: You may pay the mitosis cost of this creature at any time. If you do, sacrifice this creature and put up to 6 red goblin tokens into play. You may give these tokens power and toughness, but the total power for all the creature tokens must equal 4, and the total toughness of the creature tokens must equal 6."
Do you get it?

I get it. It doesn't work. Over complex, over memorization. Sorry, but I can't withhold my brutally honest bit.

it works fine. a bit wordy, but it works. i was about to say that we should make it less wordy, but we saw the effect of doing that with Necropotence and Yawgmoth's Bargain

No, it's FAR worse than banding:
I have a 6/7 w/ Mitosis.
Pay teh cost.
Get these tokens:
1/2 5/1 0/1 0/1 0/1 0/1
And I have to track this. Now, let's remember we have a minor tribal theme to the set. Let's pretend they're all the same tribe, and I play the following card:
{Egg Farm} {Manacost} Enchantment When ~ comes into play, choose a creature type. Creatures you control of that creature type have Hatch X, where X is equal to their converted mana cost +2.
Now this happens:
Attack 1/2, get thru. Attack 5/1, get thru.
Hatch both (And what's their converted mana cost?).
Now: 1/2 1/2 5/1 5/1 0/1 0/1 0/1 0/1
It's like Mental Magic, but far worse.

Well, it was just an idea I had. I tried to get it in less words, but I couldn't think of a way to do it.

at least its an idea. all it needs is some tweaking and we could get it in

Really? How to tweak while preserving the flavor?

Really? How to tweak while preserving the flavor? At this point you're abusing sarcasm.

I wasn't being sarcastic. How can you tweak it while still preserving its flavor? I don't think you can. Therefore, I don't think the mechanic should be in the set.
